My name is Dan Dunn. On January 3, 1994, at a coffee bar, a mysterious stranger left me with an envelope containing the key to understanding quantum physics. The man approached me as I sat drinking coffee. He said that he had something he wanted to give me. I excused myself for a brief time, and when I returned to my table I found that he had gone, leaving an envelope on the table. I have not heard from him since. Inside the envelope was what appeared to be the remains of a hand-written letter, written by a university student named Roger Gilbert who lived in England around the turn of the century. From the contents of the letter, it seems that Gilbert dreamed up an alternative explanation for the "blackbody radiation" problem that mystified the scientific world of his time.
